Soya chunks Manchurian
About:
An Indo-chinese manchurian with Soya chunks in it, which remains soft, succulent and obsorbs the flavours well. The sauces added here helps to get rid of bland taste of soya chunks and also makes the manchurian tasty and flavourful. It gets an added taste from Ginger and Garlic.
Health Benefits:
Soya chunks are processed form of soya flour and water; Wonderful option for those on a vegetarian diet. The textured soya protein in granules or chunks consists of less fat than tofu and easy to cook as well.
Servings: 2 people
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 – 25 minutes
Ingredients:
Soya chunks-200gms
For Coating:
• Corn flour-2tbsp
• Salt-1/2tsp
• Chilli powder-1/2tsp
• Oil-1tbsp
For Sauce:
• Oil-1tbsp
• Chopped garlic-4-5 pods
• Chopped Ginger – 1′ piece
• Slit Green chilli- 2 num (Optional)
• Chopped Capsicum -1 num
• Spring onion white – 1/4 cup
• Spring onion greens – 1/4 cup + For Garnishing
• Tomato sauce – 2tbsp
• Schezwan sauce (Home made) – 2tbsp
• Vinegar – 1tbsp
• Soya sauce – 1tsp
• Salt (If required)
Method:
• Boil water in a pan and cook soya chunks for 5-7 minutes then drain the water and run cold water on them; Squeeze to remove the water from the soya chunks and set aside
• Now in a bowl add Corn flour, Salt, Chilli powder and Oil; Mix well & add water if required to make batter consistency
• Now add the squeezed soya chunks and mix well so that the soya chunks coats well in the cornflour mxture and leave it for 5 minutes on the counter
• Heat Oil in a pan add coated soya chunks and saute for 8 – 10 minutes OR until soya chunks are cooked well.
• Mean while prepare the sauce- Add oil in the pan then Ginger, Garlic, Onion and sauté for few minutes
• Then add capsicum and spring onion and sauté few for minutes
• Then add Tomato sauce, Chilli sauce, Vinegar, Soya sauce, Salt and simmer for few minutes
• Now add sauted soya chunks into the sauce pan and toss it for 1 to 2 minutes until it is coated well
• Finally garnish it with Spring onion greens
Serve hot
Make it a 2 course meal by serving with Mushroom fried rice
Note:
This recipe can also be made as a side dish by adding Corn flour mixture (Corn flour mixed with Water/Milk) to the Sauce
