Papaya Figs and Dates – Halwa
About:
Papaya Halwa is one of the delicious sweets and is very easy to make. It requires very less ingredients. All you need is a sweet fully ripened papaya.
The papaya add a wonderful freshness and zing. And the spices. Oh, the spices! The green cardamom is like a soft blanket that lifts all the other flavours to a new awesomeness level.
Health benefits:
The possible health benefits of consuming papaya include a reduced risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, aiding in digestion, improving blood glucose control in diabetics, lowering blood pressure, and improving wound healing.
Yields-2-3 servings
Preparation time-10 minutes
Cooking time-20-25 minutes
Ingredients:
- Ripened papaya-1 medium
- Corn starch/corn flour-1tbsp (dissolved in 2tbsp of water)
- Dates paste-1/4cup ( I used about 15-18dates)
- Finely chopped figs-4-6
- Ground cardamom-1/2tsp
For garnishing:
- Roasted nuts
Procedure:
Preparation step:
- Peel off the skin, deseed and grate the papaya.
- Soak the pitted dates in 1/4cup water, blend it to smooth paste and set aside.
For halwa:
- Add grated papaya, dates paste, figs in the pan and cook on a low flame for about 15 minutes, stirring continuously until it is well cooked.
- Add the corn starch-water mixture and stir well and continue to cook until it attains the desired consistency.
- Add cardamom powder stir well and cook for a minute or two.
- Turn off the flame and garnish with nuts.
Serve hot/cold.
Note:
- Corn starch is added to make the halwa thicker but if you can cook longer and attain the desired consistency Corn starch/flour can be skipped.
- Sweetness can be adjusted as per the taste.
